Man City have unexpected secret weapon to help them seal Erling Haaland transfer

Former Manchester City striker Shaun Goater has offered to try and help the club bring Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland to the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland, who is one of the world's most wanted players, has been heavily linked with an array of clubs in recent months and City are firmly among the pack after they failed in their attempts to replace Sergio Aguero in the summer.

Goater, who became a Blues legend during his tenure between 1998 and 2003, played alongside Haaland's dad - Alf-Inge - at City's former home, Maine Road, and knows him well.

Haaland, who has scored 11 goals in eight appearances for Dortmund so far this season, is expected to be the subject of huge interest from a number of clubs next summer, as a release clause within his contract is said to come into effect.

And should City, who were unable to land Harry Kane during the last transfer window, wish to throw their hat into the ring in the expected squabble to sign the 21-year-old, then Goater has admitted that he will do all he can to try and help his old club secure his signature.

"If they need me to talk to Alf, I’ll do what I can," Goater told The Sun.

"He’d be an exceptional buy as he’s young, his scoring record in Europe is phenomenal and I think he’d adjust to the Premier League easily."

Haaland has been pinpointed as a top target for Manchester United, as previously reported by MEN Sport , to bolster their forward line in the future, whilst Chelsea were very much keen on landing the Norwegian prior to re-signing Romelu Lukaku during the summer transfer window.

But it is not just clubs in England that are likely to hold an interest in Haaland, with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also considered to be in the running. With PSG likely to lose Kylian Mbappe to Madrid next year, the French club could become the leading favourites to land the Dortmund striker.
