Man City have five academy kids in first-team training ahead of RB Leipzig Champions League game

Manchester City added three teenage academy starlets to their first-team training squad as they prepare to travel to Leipzig.

The Blues had defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia, and full-backs Joshua Wilson-Esbrand and Conrad Egan-Riley in this morning's rain-drenched session, indicating they are likely to fly out with Pep Guardiola 's squad this afternoon.

And with Cole Palmer and James McAtee already regular fixtures in the first-team squad this season, there will be five young players all hoping for a chance to show what they can do in the dead-rubber game against RB Leipzig.

With City certain of top spot in the group following their 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain a fortnight ago, the game has no significance for the Blues, although the German side need to win to fend off Club Brugge and claim a Europa League spot.

Palmer has already featured in the competition this season, coming off the bench to score in the 5-1 win at Brugge, but none of the others have played Champions League football yet.

Salford-born McAtee is an exciting attacking midfielder who was name-checked by Joao Cancelo as one to watch in a recent interview, and he is expected to get some game time tomorrow night.

Lavia, Egan-Eiley and Wilson-Esbrand all made their City debuts in the 6-1 Carabao Cup win over Wycombe in September.

With two games a week in the run-up to Christmas, Guardiola has already said he will use the fact that the Blues have already qualified to give some of his players a rest.

There were no notable absentees from training today, other than long-term injury victim Ferran Torres.

Guardiola is also expected to draft in Aleks Zinchenko, John Stones, Fernandinho, Nathan Ake, Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, and possibly Zack Steffen, from the team that won 3-1 at Watford to go top of the Premier League on Saturday night.
