Man City handed injury boost ahead of Brighton fixture

John Stones has returned to training ahead of Manchester City's Premier League clash against Brighton this weekend.

Pep Guardiola's side are preparing for their fourth game of the new campaign and the defender was amongst the group training at the City Football Academy on Wednesday having missed the last two games with an injury.

The centre back missed the draw against Tottenham and the win against Bournemouth with a muscular problem but trained with his team-mates for the first time after his injury on Wednesday morning.

Nicolas Otamendi has partnered Aymeric Laporte at the back for City's last two league games and at the moment it is not yet known if the England international will be available for selection for this weekend's game against Brighton.

Guardiola was asked about Stones' availability ahead of City's 3-1 win against Bournemouth on Sunday and he replied: "Not fit. We’ll see [for Brighton]."

The City manager will hold his weekly press conference at the CFA on Friday afternoon where he will be able to give an update on the availability of his players.

Gabriel Jesus also missed the win against Bournemouth with a hamstring injury and is not expected to be fit for the game on Saturday at the Etihad.

Benjamin Mendy has been working back to full fitness while long term absentee Leroy Sane is expected to miss the majority of the campaign.
