Man City goalkeeper Ederson named among 10 nominees for the 2021 Yashin Trophy

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been named among the 10 nominees for the Yashin Trophy.

The award, which is presented annually by France Football to the best performing goalkeeper in world football, was first introduced in 2019, where the Brazilian shot-stopper was named the third best goalkeeper on the planet

The Yashin Trophy was not awarded in 2020 due to Covid-19 but Ederson has been named among the nominees for the 2021 award after a stellar year for club and country.

The 28-year-old helped Man City win the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, as well as reaching the Champions League final.

Meanwhile, at international level, Ederson helped Brazil reach the Copa America final where they were beaten by arch-rivals Argentina.

Brazilian compatriot and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, who won the inaugural award in 2019, is again nominated this year, but there is no place among the nominees for 2019 runner-up Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who helped Italy win EURO 2020, is among the nominees, alongside Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester and Denmark), Edouard Mendy (Chelsea and Senegal), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid and Belgium), Keylor Navas (PSG and Costa Rica), Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa and Argentina), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich and Germany), Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid and Slovenia) and Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan and Slovenia).
