Man City goalkeeper Ederson claims 'Golden Glove' for second straight season

Manchester City are two-thirds of the way to a unique treble - and the individual awards have started to roll in.

For the second season running, goalkeeper Ederson has won the Golden Glove; a prize handed out to the Premier League stopper with the most clean sheets over 38 games.

The 27-year-old has done so with a fixture to spare, too, ahead of Chelsea number one Edouard Mendy.

Having picked up the accolade for the first time 12 months ago, through keeping 16 clean sheets, Ederson has bettered his own previous tally this campaign (18).

Despite conceding three times against Brighton last night, the Brazilian could yet make that 19 when City welcome Everton to the Etihad Stadium on the final day.

Not only has Ederson kept the most clean sheets this season, he has conceded the least amount of goals of those first-choice goalkeepers who have played a comparable amount of games.

Indeed, the Brazilian has only picked the ball out of his net 28 times in 35 appearances.

Of course, three of those came against Brighton last night, after City were reduced to ten men, while Ederson has only conceded more than two goals on one further occasion throughout this campaign.

That came during a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of top-four contenders Leicester City back in September.

Since the award was introduced ahead of the 2004/2005 season, two goalkeepers - Petr Cech and former England number one Joe Hart - have received the Golden Glove four times each.

While he was at the Etihad Stadium, Hart won it for three straight seasons between 2010 and 2012.

Cech holds the overall clean sheet record with 24 in a single term, with that staggering tally coming during the first year of the Premier League's goalkeeping award.
