Man City give injury update on Raheem Sterling, Benjamin Mendy and John Stones

Raheem Sterling faces a race to be fit for Manchester City's clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League after Pep Guardiola confirmed he had suffered a hamstring injury.

The winger picked up the injury during the 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last week and Guardiola has refused to put a timeframe on his return.

Sterling has been struggling for form recently but he remains a key part on Guardiola's best side. The England international will definitely miss Sunday's game against West Ham and is a doubt for the games against Leicester City and Real Madrid after the winter break.

Asked for an update on Sterling's fitness, Guardiola said: "Hamstring and we will see, it takes weeks but we’ll see for Leicester, Madrid and the rest of the games.

"It’s a problem, but it’s a problem we had with Gundo in the first season, Laporte this season for four or five months. It’s what it is. It’s a problem with this kind of season, particularly for the players."

Benjamin Mendy has been absent with muscle fatigue recently, while John Stones was dropped for the defeat at Tottenham last weekend, but Guardiola has confirmed both are training and available this weekend.

Leroy Sane is the only player not fit for the game with West Ham as he continues working towards his first appearance of the season. Aleks Zinchenko will miss Sunday's match with injury following his sending off at Tottenham last week for two yellow cards.
