Man City give injury update on Nathan Ake and Ilkay Gundogan ahead of Arsenal game

Manchester City could welcome Ilkay Gundogan back for Sunday's Premier League trip to Arsenal after he returned to training today.

The in-form midfielder missed the win over Everton in midweek with a groin injury but he played a part in training on Friday and a final decision on his participation will be made on Saturday.

Gundogan has scored 11 goals in his last 12 appearances for City and his form in a more advanced role has been a key part of the Blues' revival in recent weeks.

In his absence in midweek Phil Foden played in midfield, with Kevin de Bruyne making his own return from an injury in the second half.

But Gundogan could be back for the trip to the Emirates Stadium, although City will still be without Nathan Ake. The summer signing is back training on the grass but he is yet to join in a session with his teammates as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

"Nathan is back training on the pitch alone, but he's closer to coming back with us," said Guardiola. "Ilkay trained part of the training session today, we'll see tomorrow how he feels. The rest are fit."

City are looking for an 18th successive win when they travel to North London, but Guardiola is refusing to look at the record books at the moment.

"In the past we didn't think about that, just playing the next game. All the good results are a consequence of something, not competing to break records," he said.

"We just try to play good and win games. We were not consistent at the beginning of the season. I can tell you a theory but I don't know.

"We try to take decisions every game, it depends on the squad and the opponents. You have to run in the right moments, not just run for running.

"If you run earlier, you close the space. If you run late, you arrive. We hve to run in the right moments but especially move as quick as possible the ball to create spaces for our people up front."
