Man City forward Raheem Sterling praised by Liverpool FC fans over Joe Gomez message

Raheem Sterling has been praised by Liverpool fans after posting a tweet in defence of Joe Gomez.

Gomez was booed by sections of the Wembley crowd on Wednesday night after he came on as a late substitute during England's victory over Montenegro in Euro 2020 qualifying.

That reception rounded off a difficult few days for both Sterling and Gomez following the pair's altercation at St. George's Park on Monday.

Sterling was dropped for England's game against Montenegro by Gareth Southgate as punishment for confronting Gomez earlier this week.

The Manchester City forward is reported to have gripped Gomez around the throat in the canteen the day after City's defeat by Liverpool at Anfield, a game in which the two players squared up.

Sterling has since accepted full culpability for the incident and he defended Gomez after the final whistle in England's 7-0 victory.

The 24-year-old is roundly booed every time he returns to Anfield with City but some Liverpool supporters put the rivalry aside on Wednesday night to commend Sterling's maturity.

Well said.

Classy.

Fair play.

Respect.

Can't do much more.

Top man.
