Man City forward Ferran Torres an 'undisputed favourite' for Spain with Raul's record in sight

Ferran Torres has become an "undisputed favourite" for Luis Enrique and Spain with his performances for the national team.

The Man City youngster signed from Valencia last summer in a cut-price £20m deal and enjoyed a good debut season under Pep Guardiola, scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances.

Those performances saw his prominence in the Spain setup under the former Barcelona head coach rise, and a subsequent return of six goals in 2021 means Torres has cemented himself as a regular in the starting lineup going forward.

Torres has also started the season well with City, scoring twice in four games in the Premier League and staking his claim to be the centre forward that Pep Guardiola desperately wanted during the summer transfer window.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, via SportWitness, Torres is being undervalued by fans and pundits alike. He has started 15 of the last 20 international games, scoring ten goals in the process which is an astounding number for a player who isn't naturally a focal point of attack.

Torres is now just three goals away from becoming the nation's top scorer for a 22-year-old, with Real Madrid legend Raul currently holding the record with 13 goals before turning 22. The City man has got four games to potentially break that record and, with his ability to play both out wide and through the middle, his chances of doing so look good.

As City prepare to take on Leicester this weekend, all eyes will be on Spain's new attacking superstar and as his profile continues to rise back in his homeland don't be surprised to see him step up a level at club level too.
