Man City fans would change two players in line up vs West Ham

Manchester City fans are scratching their heads with two decisions in Pep Guardiola's first team sheet of the new Premier League season.

City begin their defence of their Premier League title at the London Stadium to face West Ham, and Guardiola has made three changes from the side that beat Liverpool to lift the Community Shield last week.

With Leroy Sane out for a long period with an ACL injury and Ederson assuming his place in goal, City were expected to make at least two changes.

Guardiola did bring Ederson back, while Riyad Mahrez replaced Sane. That shifted Raheem Sterling back onto the wing after playing a central role in pre-season, with Mahrez preferred over Bernardo Silva on the opposite side.

At the back, Kyle Walker got the nod ahead of new signing Joao Cancelo, but the Portugese full-back could make his debut from the bench as he was named among the substitutes.

Rodri was handed his Premier League debut after Guardiola yesterday praised the Spaniard as potentially City's best signing in recent years. However, Fernandinho did not make the matchday squad for a second weekend running.

On the whole, City fans were pleased with the starting XI - lead by new captain David Silva - but they were scratching their heads at seeing Bernardo and Sergio Aguero on the bench.

Man City starting XI vs West Ham: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Zinchenko, Rodrigo, Silva (C), De Bruyne, Mahrez, Sterling, Jesus .

Substitutes: Bravo, Gundogan, Aguero, Bernardo, Cancelo, Otamendi, Foden
