Man City fans unhappy with "harsh" Pep Guardiola team decision against Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City fans feel Pep Guardiola has acted harshly after he named Bernardo Silva ahead of Riyad Mahrez in the starting XI to face Tottenham today.

Bernardo was rested last week in City's 5-0 win over West Ham, with Mahrez registering three assists as he played a part in each goal from Guardiola's men.

In midfield, Rodri got the nod ahead of Fernandinho after Pep Guardiola said the Brazilian was ready to play after missing the opening two games. Guardiola also chose to continue with Kyle Walker at right-back, despite Joao Cancelo saying he was looking forward to making his debut.

Ederson resumes his place in goal, while John Stones is absent with injury so Nicolas Otamendi partners Aymeric Laporte in central defence. Oleks Zinchenko has the chance to break the Premier League record for most consecutive wins as he starts at left-back.

Much has been made of Guardiola's midfield options, and against Tottenham he opts for a trio of Rodri, Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan - who replaces David Silva.

In attack, Raheem Sterling continues after his hat-trick against West Ham, with Bernardo opposite. Sergio Aguero is preferred to Gabriel Jesus, despite the Brazilian striker scoring at West Ham.

But fans felt that Mahrez should have been given the chance to continue against Tottenham - a team he enjoys playing after scoring the winner at Wembley in the 2017/18 season.

Man City starting XI vs Tottenham Hotspur: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Zinchenko, Rodrigo, Gundogan, De Bruyne (C), Sterling, Bernardo, Aguero.

Substitutes: Bravo, Jesus, Silva, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Cancelo, Foden.
