Man City fans to be affected by London tube strike over FA Cup Final weekend

Manchester City fans attending the FA Cup Final could be amongst those affected by planned strikes on the London tube system.

Pep Guardiola's side will be travelling down to the capital on Saturday 18 May as the face Watford in the Wembley showpiece event.

However, supporters could be affected by travel disruption after the RMT union announced that more than 1,000 of its members will walk out in a three-day strike in a row over safety.

London Underground maintenance and engineering workers are due to walk out from 07:00 BST on Friday 17 May with disruption set to continue throughout the weekend.

Transport for London say they have plans in place to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum over the weekend. Peter McNaught, director of asset operations for London Underground, said: “We have plans in place to ensure we can deliver a Tube service for our customers, and keep disruption to a minimum. The safety of customers and staff is our top priority and our proposals do not compromise this.

"Train checks will continue daily, with every train thoroughly checked to guarantee safety. Our proposals are to change the frequencies of some less safety critical checks, with the regulator, the Office of Rail and Road, satisfied with our approach. We have actively consulted with the Trade Unions over this issue and we remain open for discussions on how to resolve this dispute without unnecessary industrial action."

Supporters have already been faced with travel chaos after the Football Association announced the match would kick-off at the unusual time of 17:00 BST.

City could complete a domestic treble with victory in the final having already secured the Carabao Cup as well as leading the Premier League with only two matches left to play.
