Man City fans think Pep Guardiola has taken defensive risk vs Manchester United

If Pep Guardiola's surprising Manchester City starting XIs this season have taught fans anything, it's to trust his judgement however risky his team selection looks.

In the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester United, Guardiola surprised everyone by not naming any recognised striker in the starting line up, before City produced an attacking masterclass to establish a 3-1 lead in the tie.

Guardiola has regularly offered shocking team selections this season, especially in defence where the likes of Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have all been injured at different times, leaving Fernandinho and Rodri to deputise as makeshift centre-backs.

In the second leg, City were without both Fernandinho and Laporte, and Guardiola decided to named Rodri in defence alongside Otamendi. John Stones was on the bench.

The surprises didn't stop there, as Joao Cancelo was named at left-back, rather than his favoured position on the right, and Claudio Bravo was preferred to Ederson in goal.

City have a two-goal cushion between them and United, but fans still felt that Guardiola's back line was something of a risk against United's pacey front line.
