Even though City lost Aymeric Laporte through injury on the half hour mark, Guardiola's tactics paid off almost instantly with City enjoying the better chances of the first-half.
However, the Blues found themselves behind following the interval with individual errors allowing Vinicius Junior to square to Isco who beat Ederson.
City responded superbly, equalising through Jesus before Kevin De Bruyne put his side in front from the penalty spot. A late Sergio Ramos red card ensured it was an almost perfect evening for Guardiola.
The win ensures City take a massive advantage into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, with two vital away goals in the bag.
