Man City fans send message to Pep Guardiola after Aleks Zinchenko performance for Ukraine

Manchester City fans think Aleks Zinchenko has shown enough quality to be afforded some more chances in midfield after impressing there for Ukraine.

Zinchenko is regularly deployed in the centre of midfield for his country, but is used at left-back for City. He arrived for a ridiculously cheap £1.7m in 2016 as a midfield option, but has almost exclusively been used at full-back since returning from a productive loan at PSV Eindhoven a year later.

With left-back proving to be a problematic area for City, Zinchenko has been used at full-back for most of his time at the Etihad and has impressed there especially in the last two seasons.

So it was a rare chance to see Zinchenko playing in midfield as Ukraine took on the Netherlands at Euro 2020 on Sunday. Donning the number 17, Zinchenko was one of Ukraine's better performers and showed his defensive attributes as well as some driving runs into the attacking positions.

As a result, City fans were delighted to see what Zinchenko can bring from a central position as they expressed a desire to see him play there more for the Blues.

Ukraine fought back from 2-0 down to level the scores in Amsterdam, but it was the hosts who earned all three points with a late winner - set up by City's Nathan Ake.

After the game, Zinchenko said: "We are very disappointed because we showed character and levelled the score in such a hard game. It always hurts to concede in the final minutes but it's football.

''We have to learn from our mistakes and move forward because this tournament is not finished after one game. Our team has character and big heart. I think it's the most important thing, and the results will come. We need to take a result in our next game."
