Man City fans react to Swindon team news as COVID impact clear

Manchester City fans were left flabbergasted by their starting XI to face Swindon Town.

The six-time winners travelled to the south west of England without 21 of the first-team squad, seven players, who were self-isolating after an outbreak forced Pep Guardiola out of being at the FA Cup third-round tie.

Much of the discussion was centred around who would be missing but as the team news came through, City fans were shocked to see the strong line-up as Ilkay Gundogan captained the Blues with Kyle Walker, Gabriel Jesus and Kevin de Bruyne named.

Chelsea dumped the Spaniard's side out in the semi-final after Kai Havertz's goal was the difference before they were beaten in the final by Leicester City.

The Blues' squad depth was clear to see with an impressive number of Premier League winners in the side to play Ben Garner's men.

Amongst the squad was veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson and a number of City youngsters including Kayky and Oscar Bobb who are in line to make their Manchester City debuts.

Riyad Mahrez missed out due to his commitments with Algeria ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations bid whilst a number of regulars including Raheem Sterling, Ederson, John Stones and Jack Grealish were left at home.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Phil Foden missed the win over Arsenal after testing positive.

Despite his absence, Guardiola showed his ambitions for the competition after accusations in recent years that the prestigious English cup competition wasn't taken seriously.
