Man City fans react to Pep Guardiola's John Stones selection vs Wolves

It's the dawn of a new season and with it comes a selection by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola that sees John Stones start the match against Wolves.

City face bogey side Wolves on Monday night in their opening match of the Premier League   season, just over a month after the previous campaign came to a crushing end with defeat to Lyon in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Pre-season preparations have been far from ideal for Guardiola, as a combination of positive COVID-19 tests and injuries have ruled a large portion of his side out for the trip to the Black Country.

Aymeric Laporte, Ilkay Gundogan, Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, Eric Garcia and Aleks Zinchenko have all missed out on the match, leaving the Blues boss with a threadbare squad to choose from.

That has led to the exciting inclusions of youngsters Tommy Doyle, Adrian Bernabe and Liam Delap on the bench, but it has also seen a starting XI that has raised questions with supporters.

It could see City will be deploying a back-three or their typical 4-3-3 formation with defensive duo Fernandinho and Rodri in the middle of the park, which has been a cause for concern for fans as it's similar to the much-criticised set-up that brought defeat against Lyon in the Champions League.

Fans have also been left perplexed by the inclusion of Stones. The centre-back's time at the club looked as though it could be over at the beginning of the summer after another season of injury troubles and bad form. But he starts alongside debutant Nathan Ake at Molineux and fans have expressed their worries.

Man City starting XI vs Wolves: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Ake, Mendy; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Rodri; Foden, Jesus, Sterling.

Substitutes: Steffen, Torres, Mahrez, Otamendi, Delap, Doyle, Bernabe.
