Man City fans react to favourable Champions League draw

Manchester City fans are delighted with their Champions League group stage draw ahead of the new European campaign.

City's run in Europe's top competition ended in bitter disappointment last season as they once again fell to defeat in the quarter-finals, this time to French side Lyon.

However, there has been renewed optimism for this year's tournament as Pep Guardiola's side have been handed what - on paper -  looks a comfortable group in Thursday afternoon's draw. City have been put into Group C alongside FC Porto, Olympiacos and Marseilles.

Although the group contains the reigning champions of Portugal and Greece, neither Porto or Olympiacos have been a major force in European competition for a number of years.

Marseilles lifted the trophy in 1993, but are making their first appearance in the tournament since the 2013-14 season after enjoying a strong season last year.

The Blues have never faced the French side or Olympiacos in competitive action but have twice competed against Porto, defeating them 2-1 and 4-0 in the Europa League back in 2012.

City seem to have a knack of being given a favourable group in the Champions League and fans are pleased to see that their luck has continued this year.

The Champions League group stages fixtures will be confirmed on Friday and be played from October to December.
