Man City fans react as John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are pictured back in training

Manchester City fans have greeted the news that John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are back in training with excitement ahead of Saturday's crunch Premier League fixture against Chelsea.

Since City's 1-0 away victory over Leicester City, the duo have been out of action, where Laporte started alongside Ruben Dias at the heart of defence. In their absence, Netherlands international Nathan Ake has stepped in admirably amid the saddening news that his father has passed away following a battle with illness.

With a clash against fellow title challengers Chelsea on the horizon, Pep Guardiola will be encouraged that Stones and Laporte are back in training. For an assignment as difficult as Romelu Lukaku, the Catalan coach will desperately hope one of Dias' preferred deputies can partner the Portuguese star in front of Ederson.

And City fans have taken to Twitter to express their excitement about the defensive duo moving closer to fitness.

As you can tell, City fans are encouraged by the pictures of Stones and Laporte back in training.

However, until Guardiola is addressed on the topic in Friday's press conference, City fans will be in the dark about whether the pair will be passed fit to feature on Saturday.
