Man City fans react as Aymeric Laporte snubbed by France national team again

Manchester City supporters have been left baffled after Aymeric Laporte was again left out of the France squad ahead of their upcoming Nations League games.

Despite establishing himself as one of the Premier League's best defenders, perhaps second only to Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, Laporte has amazingly never been capped by his country.

The 26-year-old has been called up four times by manager Didier Deschamps without ever appearing for the reigning world champions and once went over two years without being selected for a squad altogether between March 2017 and August 2019.

Before football was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, Laporte admitted that he was targeting a recall to the national team for March's friendlies ahead of EURO 2020.

“The squad announcement in March? I look at all the squad announcements. I hope that I will be there," Laporte told Telefoot via  GFFN.

"It has been bouncing around my head for a while, I spoke with Didier Deschamps about coming back for Les Bleus, I am trying to show that I have the qualities to make the French national team. Certainly, making the Euros at the end of this year would be the best thing.”

Laporte's latest snub came as quite a shock for City fans who can't see a reason why the star defender can't get a place in the team.

There also wasn't a place in the squad for Benjamin Mendy so the duo are expected to return to training with the other City players not involved in the upcoming international fixtures on Monday.
