Man City fans on their way to Milan missed half of tonight's match after delays to their flight at home

Manchester City fans say they missed tonight’s match when police boarded a flight to Milan causing a three-hour delay.

Fans heading to the Italian city to watch the Blues clash against Atalanta say they were stranded on the tarmac at Manchester Airport.

Flight EJU2922 was due to depart from Terminal 1 at Manchester at 2.35pm on Wednesday.

The M.E.N understands the flight was grounded when the police were called to speak to a passenger on board the flight.

The flight was delayed while cabin crew carried out additional security checks and the flight departed as normal.

The plane eventually took off at 5.37pm arriving in Milan at 8.31pm - half way through the first half of the match.

One supporter told the M.E.N he was forced to pay 100 Euros for a taxi from the airport to the San Siro stadium.

Other fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

@gkmcfc tweeted: When your Milan bound flight gets delayed and there’s no explanation why @easyJet”

He later added: “We’re off after a 3 hour delay! #mcfc”

An EasyJet spokesperson said: “We can confirm that flight EJU2922 from Manchester to Milan returned to stand and was boarded by the police to speak to a passenger.

“The safety and security of its passengers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority and we would like to thank passengers for their understanding.”
