Man City fans name the starting line-up they want to see for Premier League clash vs Brentford

Manchester City will be going in search of a tenth successive Premier League victory when they face Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium this evening, kick-off 8:15pm.

City, who have not faced Brentford since 1997, will be looking to build on their thrilling 6-3 Boxing Day win over Leicester City and end 2021 on a high.

The win over Leicester saw City move six points clear of second-placed Liverpool, who saw their Boxing Day tussle with Leeds United postponed. However, Liverpool, on their return to action, were beaten 1-0 by Leicester last night, meaning City will move nine points clear of Jurgen Klopp's side with a win this evening.

Furthermore, should Chelsea slip-up at home to Brighton & Hove Albion this evening and City win, Pep Guardiola's side could find themselves nine points clear at the top as we enter 2022.

With the fixtures at this time of year continuing to come thick and fast, City, who beat Newcastle United 4-0 in their last away game, could have a different look to themselves this evening, with Guardiola not light on options to make alterations.

With that in mind, do City's supporters want Guardiola to stick or twist as far as his starting line-up is concerned? Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what they have voted for using our interactive widget.

Goalkeeper - Ederson

Having failed to record a fourth successive Premier League clean sheet against Leicester on Sunday, Ederson will be determined to add to his tally against Brentford.

As well as that, he is one of the first names on the teamsheet for Guardiola and the supporters have no doubt about who they would like to see start in between the sticks against Thomas Frank's side.

Defence - Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Aleksandr Zinchenko

With Kyle Walker poised to miss out once again in the capital this evening, City's supporters want to see the same back-four started against Leicester, despite it shipping three goals.

Cancelo, just as he has done in the last two games, is being urged to start at right-back, with Dias and Laporte, the latter of whom scored at the weekend, lining up alongside each other at centre-back. The supporters also want to see Ukraine international Zinchenko start at left-back for the fifth Premier League game in succession.

John Stones, like Walker, is also set to miss out, meaning Nathan Ake is expected to provide central-defensive cover from the substitutes bench.

Midfield - Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne

Unlike in defence, City's supporters want to see Guardiola make one change to his midfield-three from the side that beat Leicester.

They want to see Bernardo drop back into a deeper role at the expense of Fernandinho. The Portuguese ace, who has been outstanding this season, played in the false nine role against Leicester, meaning Fernandinho slotted into midfield and joined Gundogan and De Bruyne in a trademark three-man City midfield.

Attack - Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Jack Grealish

With Bernardo dropping back into midfield, City's supporters wanted to see at least one change in attack, but they have voted for two.

As well as wanting to see Jesus restored to the starting line-up at the expense of Fernandinho, with Bernardo dropping back into midfield, they also want to see Grealish replace Sterling, despite the latter scoring twice against Leicester and being on a terrific run of form.

Therefore, City's supporters are hoping to see a front-three, from right to left, of Mahrez, Jesus and Grealish, leaving the likes of Phil Foden and Sterling to settle for places on the bench.

Grealish has been an unused substitute in each of the Blues' last two matches, despite scoring on his last league start in the 7-0 rout over Leeds United earlier this month.
