Man City fans name David Silva and Phil Foden regret after Newcastle victory

Phil Foden and David Silva played excellently together in Manchester City's 5-0 win over Newcastle on Wednesday night but some supporters are gutted that the pair won't be playing side-by-side for much longer.

City were looking for an immediate reaction following Sunday's shock 1-0 defeat at Southampton when they faced Newcastle and they got one as Gabriel Jesus put them ahead within 10 minutes, before Riyad Mahrez doubled the lead 10 minutes later.

Both Silva and Foden played integral roles in the opening two goals as they linked up down the left flank. The first saw Foden play a delightfully weighted pass into the Spaniard which allowed him to cut it back first time for Jesus to tap in.

The second goal was almost a carbon copy but this time it was Silva who passed to Foden, who then repeated his trick by playing through Kevin De Bruyne who teed up Mahrez.

Foden has often been dubbed as the successor to Silva's place in midfield but since the Premier League's restart the 20-year-old has been in excellent form playing further forward in the attacking three, and the pair showed they can work brilliantly together down the left against the Magpies.

Which makes it even more of a shame that the captain will be leaving the club at the end of the season after a 10-year stay but supporters are going to enjoy the partnership while they can.

You can see a selection of their reactions to their pair's partnership below:

A dominating City went on to add more goals to the score sheet in the second-half, with Foden and Silva continuing to be involved.

The third goal came after Foden played a one-two with Jesus which set the Brazilian dribbling into the box and resulted in Matt Ritchie clearing the ball but it deflected off a defender and into the back of net. The fourth was much more glamorous as Silva bent in a splendid free-kick.

Silva then grabbed his second assist of the game in the dying minutes as he intercepted a poor pass before playing in Raheem Sterling to slot home.
