Man City fans make transfer decision after defensive injuries

Manchester City fans want Pep Guardiola to enter the January transfer market to reinforce his defensive options.

The call comes after John Stones has missed three of City's four league games so far this season, and Aymeric Laporte was ruled out until the new year with a knee injury.

City allowed Vincent Kompany to leave for Anderlecht over the summer, and Guardiola opted not to bring in a replacement, leaving Stones, Laporte and Nicolas Otamendi as the only senior centre-back options.

Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis as academy options, with Fernandinho and Kyle Walker likely to drop in over the coming weeks.

And with City expected to be competing on four fronts again as the season progresses, fans are keen to see more options in defence in the second half of the campaign.

When MEN Sport asked supporters whether City should sign a new centre-back in January, 57% voted 'yes'.

Among the suggestions for potential additions were Nathan Ake of Bournemouth, Benfica's Ruben Dias, and Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

However, others warned against inflated prices in the January market, and felt City had plenty of options at the back - even if it meant playing the academy players.

City have been reluctant to do business in January in the past, but did sign Laporte for a then-club-record fee in 2018.
