Man City fans make Riyad Mahrez prediction after AFCON goal for Algeria

Manchester City fans hope that Riyad Mahrez's goal for Algeria in their opening Africa Cup of Nations game can kick start some improved form for their record signing.

Mahrez signed last summer for £60m from Leicester but struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in Pep Guardiola's side despite a respectable return of 12 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

But with Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva all options on the flanks, Mahrez found it difficult to establish a run on the right.

Now with Algeria at the AFCON tournament, Mahrez captained his country and scored the second goal in their 2-0 win over Kenya, sweeping home a cut back from inside the box.

And City fans saw an opportunity for Mahrez to discover some form heading into the new season, where they felt he could have a big impact.

In other international games, Sergio Aguero scored his 40th goal for Argentina as they overcame Qatar to advance to the Copa America quarter finals.

Argentina have been underwhelming in the tournament so far, but Aguero's second half strike ensured they live on in the tournament.

Nicolas Otamendi also featured, with Aguero's goal meaning he became only the third player to score 40 time for Argentina - behind Lionel Messi (68) and Gabriel Batistuta (54).
