Man City fans love Pep Guardiola's Zinchenko decision vs Oxford United in Carabao Cup

Manchester City fans are delighted to see Aleks Zinchenko get a rare run in midfield after Pep Guardiola named his starting XI to face Oxford United in the Carabao Cup tonight.

The quarter-final begins a hectic run of six games in just 18 days for City, and the team selection reflects a desire to keep as many legs as fresh as possible.

As expected, Sergio Aguero, John Stones and David Silva were not risked, with Gabriel Jesus, Benjamin Mendy and Nicolas Otamendi all dropping down after featuring against Arsenal at the weekend. Fernandinho and Kevin de Bruyne were rested completely.

Only Phil Foden, Rodri and Raheem Sterling keep their places from the side that won 3-0 at the Emirates.

In defence, Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis resume their popular partnership at the back against the League One side, with Angelino in at left-back and Joao Cancelo replacing Kyle Walker at right-back.

In midfield, Zinchenko got a welcome start having returned from injury in his favoured position, and Rodri and Foden were kept in the starting XI. Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva came in on the wings to support Raheem Sterling in attack, who replaced Gabriel Jesus.

And fans were thrilled to see Zinchenko feature in midfield, rather than the left-back slot he has performed well in over the last couple of seasons. The Ukrainian still performs in the centre on international duty, and will surely be looking to make a good impression after Guardiola finally gave him a chance there.
