Man City fans identify the player to take Leroy Sane's place in first team squad

As soon as Pep Guardiola confirmed that Leroy Sane has rejected a new contract at Manchester City, thoughts among fans have turned to who should replace him.

Bayern Munich have publicly chased Sane for around two years, and while his next club is not yet confirmed, it is no huge surprise to hear that Sane sees his future elsewhere.

Guardiola confirmed that Sane will be allowed to leave the Etihad this summer if an appropriate offer comes in. If it doesn't, the German will leave next summer on a free transfer when his contract expires.

With an uncertain transfer market this summer due to the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, City may struggle to find a replacement for Sane before next season if he was to leave this year.

So fans think Guardiola could do worse than look towards the youth academy where there are a number of talented forwards for City to develop.

Among them is young Dutchman Jayden Braaf, who has impressed this season for the under-23s with his direct running and a number of eye-catching goals.

Still only 17, it may be too soon for Braaf to immediately step up to take on Sane's first team responsibilities, but fans certainly feel the winger has the potential to take advantage of Sane's departure.

This is a selection of tweets from fans calling for Braaf to step up:

MEN Sport reported earlier this month that Braaf is facing an uncertain future after being left frustrated at being left out of first team training recently.

Braaf was told not to report back to the club until July as Guardiola called up a number of locally-based academy players to join the first team squad.

Sources close to the player told M.E.N Sport that the 17-year-old has been disappointed by the lack of clarity and attention, having been told when signing for the club that he would be given first-team opportunities if he developed. He is not expecting game time, but sees first-team training as an important step in improving him as a player.

Braaf is understood to still be happy in Manchester and his aim remains to break into the first team at the Etihad under Guardiola. However, the failure to call on him as the season prepares to return has disappointed the player and encouraged clubs in Germany and the Netherlands that are keen on signing him.
