Man City fans hold VAR posters during match with Crystal Palace

If it wasn't obvious enough already, Man City supporters have once again made their feelings about VAR clear during the Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace.

In the early stages of the match, fans in the South Stand at the Etihad Stadium pulled out A4 sized banners with a message against the controversial technology.

The signs read: "R.I.P FOOTBALL VAR IS HERE #RESPECTFANS."

The signs have taken inspiration from a poster a single protester unfurled on the New Year's Day victory over Everton.

City fan Don Grant held a up a far bigger banner with a similar message during half-time in the game in which Phil Foden has a goal disallowed following a VAR review.

That led to a confrontation with stewards, who asked him to take it down, with the club later saying they did so out of concern for the sight lines of other supporters.

Don, who has been a Blues fan for 50 years but is being driven to considerations of quiting due to his anger at VAR, predicted that more supporters would begin to take a stand against VAR and he has been proven correct.

“It’s the way the game has been going. It’s really me peed me off the way the game has changed, the stop-start and inconsistency – all the enjoyment is going out of it for me,” he told the MEN.

“I’ve been speaking to a lot of fans who think the same way, and it all built up to the point where I thought I had to do something.

"Supporters have to make a stand, they ignore us and treat us with contempt, and it’s wrong. The response from City fans, and fans of other clubs, has been amazing. Don’t be surprised if others do it tomorrow, but we will see."
