Man City fans furious with Pep Guardiola's defensive decision vs Burnley

Manchester City fans are unconvinced at Pep Guardiola's decision to start Fernandinho and Nicolas Otamendi together at Burnley in the Premier League.

City travel to Turf Moor in desperate need of a return to winning ways after potentially seeing their Premier League crown slip through their fingers on Saturday with a draw at Newcastle to extend Liverpool's lead to 11 points.

Guardiola had hinted at Fernandinho's involvement in central defence again, despite having Otamendi and John Stones both fit. He named the Brazilian in the back at Turf Moor, choosing Otamendi as his partner to replace Stones.

The pair last played together in the 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, and drew criticism from some fans for their roles in the equaliser from the Ukrainian side. Fernandinho has come under the spotlight, too, as he gave away the freekick that saw Newcastle score late on at the weekend.

With John Stones and Eric Garcia on the bench at Burnley, fans wanted to see a more natural partnership at the back and Fernandinho returned to defensive midfield.

Instead Guardiola has stuck to his word and persisted with the midfielder in defence and fans are worried that he is being partnered with Otamendi.

The pair were partners of the back for the 2-0 defeat to Wolves and draws with Atalanta and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, so their concerns are understandable.
