Man City fans fume over penalty incident with comparisons to Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes

Manchester City fans are furious after Gabriel Jesus was denied a penalty against Bournemouth and have drawn comparisons to the spot-kick Bruno Fernandes won for Manchester United against Aston Villa recently.

City were leading 2-0 midway through the second-half when a wonderful move from the Blues saw David Silva play goalscorer Jesus into the area where he was appeared to be brought down by Steve Cook.

The referee Lee Mason immediately awarded a penalty but following a check from VAR the decision was overturned as Jesus was adjudged to have stood on the Cherries defender.

While that was the case, the only reason the Brazilian did so is because Cook put his foot in his path to try and win the ball, which he missed, and then tripped Jesus up.

City supporters have compared the incident to the penalty won by United's playmaker Fernandes, where he appeared to tread on Villa defender Ezri Konsa but was adjudged to have been fouled himself, a decision which the Premier League later admitted was incorrect.

Although City held out for a 2-1 win in a nervy game, fans remain angry about the decision.

You can see a selection of their reactions below:

Jesus will take solace in the fact that he managed to get on the scoresheet for the third game running in the victory with a brilliant finish that came after a mazey run inside the box.

David Silva was the star of the show once again, however, as he opened the scoring with another fantastic free-kick before teeing up Jesus' strike.

Bournemouth refused to quit though and were unlucky not to earn a draw in the game after a gutsy performance, but David Brooks late goal proved to only be a consolation.
