Man City fans bemoan Eric Garcia's luck as he suffers freak injury after impressive performance

Manchester City fans have been waiting an age for Aymeric Laporte and Eric Garcia to play alongside each other and they did not disappoint when finally given the opportunity.

City have endured struggles at the back this season as the failure to replace Vincent Kompany was compounded by a serious injury to Laporte. John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have also had their fitness issues but when they have played they have struggled for form and have often made costly mistakes.

Youngster Garcia, on the other hand, has impressed whenever he has been given an opportunity by Pep Guardiola and he was given a starting berth alongside Larpote in City's first Premier League game following the break against Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta's side did start the game the brighter, with the pace of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah looking dangerous, but the centre-back pairing held firm and Ederson had very little to do.

City fans had been left very impressed by Garcia and were calling for him to remain a regular fixture in the starting XI for the rest of the season but, unfortunately, he would go on to suffer a horrible looking injury.

With less than 10 minutes to go Ederson rushed off his line to clear a long ball over the top but after doing so his momentum saw him clatter into the Spaniard in a nasty collision that required lengthy treatment and a stretcher to take him off the pitch.

Supporters are gutted that Garcia has suffered such an unfortunate injury after his impressive performance and have wished him a quick recovery.

You can find a selection of their reactions below:

City won their return to Premier League action at a canter as they easily swept the Gunners aside with a 3-0 victory.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring after a David Luiz error played him through on goal and the centre-back would continue to have a calamitous evening as he gave away a penalty and was sent off early in the second-half.

Kevin De Bruyne slotted it away and Phil Foden added a third with an emphatic finish in the dying minutes.
