Man City fans ask same question after Sergio Aguero dropped vs Real Madrid in Champions League

Manchester City fans are shocked at Pep Guardiola's decision to drop Sergio Aguero for their Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

City are in action at the Bernabeu tonight but it won't be the Argentine leading the line. Bernardo Silva is set to operate in a false nine role - similar to the position he played against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup - with Gabriel Jesus playing on the left.

Aguero has made just two starts in the Champions League this season but has scored twice. Jesus has four goals and two assists in four starts in the competition.

The 31-year-old has more experience than most against the Spanish giants, having featured against them ten times during his spell with Atletico Madrid.

Nevertheless, he starts from the bench alongside Raheem Sterling who could make his return from injury after being declared fit to play by Guardiola during yesterday's press conference.

The decision to drop Aguero for just an important fixture has left fans baffled given his scoring record in important fixtures over the years.

City fans took to social media to react to the team news.

Here is what they had to say:

It's another bold decision by Guardiola in a crucial Champions League knockout fixture.

The Catalan responded to claims from Thomas Muller than he sometimes over-thinks such games during his pre-match press conference.

He said: "When an ex-players makes the statement, it’s not criticism, it’s info.

"I have an obligation to know as much as possible about my opponent, and I have not played Madrid for five years

"Thomas and the others cannot say I didn’t prepare to win games at Barca, Munich and City. I never watch a game and don’t want to win it.

"As a player, I thought that if I know more about the opponent, it made me confident to know what I have to face.

"If the players felt that – if Thomas felt that – it’s good info. Maybe it’s a mistake but I try to make them confident and go out to try to win the game."
