Man City fans ask same question after Gabriel Jesus penalty miss vs Atalanta

Man City fans have been wondering why Ilkay Gundogan didn't take the penalty that Gabriel Jesus missed in the first-half of the Champions League clash against Atalanta.

City took the lead early on at the San Siro when Jesus' wonderful back-pass was played into the path of Raheem Sterling who made no mistake.

The Blues went on to control the half and had several chances to extend their lead but the biggest of them all came from the penalty spot.

It was a series of bizarre events that led to the penalty as City initially thought they'd won one when Sterling was pulled back in the box, though it was over turned as VAR revealed the foul started outside the box.

From the resulting free-kick Sterling blasted the ball into the wall where it struck an arm and a short VAR review later City had their spot kick.

Jesus confidently stood up to take it with first choice penalty taker Sergio Aguero on the bench, but he passed it well wide of the post.

The penalty proved to be costly as City would go on to draw the game 1-1 as goalkeeper chaos reigned after Ederson was substituted due to injury, Claudio Bravo was sent off and Kyle Walker replaced him in goal.

The poor penalty has got City fans questioning why Gundogan, who is often composed from the spot, didn't take it instead.
