Man City fans agree with Gary Neville about Phil Foden penalty appeal vs Liverpool

Manchester City fans were left raging at the non-award of a foul against James Milner at Anfield.

Milner looked to have brought down Phil Foden in the first-half of the Premier League clash but referee Paul Tierney did not stop play. VAR officials did not get involved to penalise Milner either, with replays showing contact by the Liverpool player on Foden.

There was debate over whether contact came outside the box or inside it but either way fans are asking why a free-kick at the very least was not given.

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville, commentating on the match for Sky Sports, thought there was a foul committed by former City midfielder Milner.

City fans took to social media and had their say on the flashpoint.

Neville on commentary had said: "It was clumsy, it started on the outside, did it carry on into the box?

"It definitely is a foul, there’s a clip of the heel. Well he thinks it’s a penalty [Pep Guardiola]. That’s that acceleration Phil Foden has, cuts across you, he thinks he’s there Milner."

"It’s one of those where Foden recognises he’s got to go past the challenge and goes down thinking ‘well you’ve got to go down to get a penalty."
