Man City fan noticed Mikel Arteta's role in Raheem Sterling's brace to excite Arsenal supporters

Manchester City have been in Carabao Cup action tonight (Wednesday).

As expected, they've hit three goals to overcome Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium to reach the semi-final of the competition they've won in each of the last two seasons.

Raheem Sterling - who scored in City's 3-0 win over Arsenal at the weekend - captained the side in the absence of David Silva, Fernandinho and Kevin De Bruyne.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal's philosophy when he joined as a player

And he took his tally to 18 goals across all competitions with a second half brace before being substituted.

The England international's improvement in front goal in the past two years has been nothing short of sensational and it's no secret that Mikel Arteta has had a big impact on Sterling's game.

The Spaniard - who has agreed to become the next Arsenal head coach - has previously spoken about his role in helping Sterling become a goal machine.

"We wanted him much closer to the penalty area. It was like he was a bit scared of the goal. We wanted him to become the kind of player who would get us a goal every game, or even just missing two or three big chances," he told  The Guardian  .

"We wanted him constantly generating goal threat. And we wanted him to lose the fear.

"He needed to believe in himself, to believe that he could be the best."

After Sterling's two goals, a Man City fan took to Twitter and credited Arteta for his work with the 25-year-old.

"I've never seen two finishes as calm by Sterling as we've seen today," @TotalFIFACM wrote. "I feel like Arteta has played a role in that. He used to get way to fast for himself and play into trouble.

"He's gained tremendous body control over the years."

This analysis will no doubt excite Arsenal supporters.

As mentioned above, football.london have reported that Arteta has reached an agreement with the club to become the new head coach and will sign three-and-a-half year contract.

If Arteta is able to have an impact on Nicolas Pepe and the other Arsenal winger's fortunes in front of goal then exciting times are ahead at the Emirates Stadium - just as long as he can improve the defence at the same time.
