Man City fan Noel Gallagher says Liverpool FC are only reason Premier League season hasn't been voided

Noel Gallagher has suggested the Premier League season would have been voided by now if Manchester City were 25 points clear at the top of the table rather than Liverpool.

City are set to lose their Premier League crown when the season resumes, with Liverpool having lost just once all season and sitting 25 points ahead of Pep Guardiola's men.

Liverpool are just two wins away from winning their first ever Premier League title - or one if they were to beat City in their outstanding fixture at the Etihad - and Gallagher said the Merseyside club should be handed the trophy and the season ended early.

In typical straight-talking fashion, Gallagher told talkSPORT that he wasn't missing football since the season was suspended, saying: "As Liverpool are 25 points clear, not a great deal.

"I think it should have been voided weeks ago. Just give them the trophy, they’ve won it anyway."

Gallagher then suggested that if City and Liverpool were in opposite positions, the decision to curtail the season would have already been taken.

He continued: “The cynic in me think if it wasn’t Liverpool going for the title, if it was City or Chelsea, it would have been voided already.

“I don’t think anybody should go up or go down [in the Championship and PL]. They should be looking towards next season now.

“If they try and finish this season then the next few seasons are going to be chaos.”

Gallagher also stuck up for footballers, saying Premier League players have been demonised as efforts are made to restart the season.

“I don’t like the way football players have been demonised since this thing started and I think they’re just trying to prod them back into playing football,” he explained.

“They’re just young lads. It’s pretty straight forward, they’re not going to want to do it if it risks their safety. If one of them catches the virus then it’s over.”
