A group of Manchester City fans who launched a foodbank donation site on matchdays will be back outside the Etihad on Saturday as the stadium returns to full capacity.
MCFC Fans Foodbank Support (MCFC FFS) started up on New Year's Day in 2020 before Pep Guardiola's side kicked off against Everton, and raised a ton of donations for Manchester Central Foodbank over the next few months before the pandemic prevented fans from attending games in Manchester for over a year.
The group worked with some likeminded United fans last year to persuade City and United to each commit £50,000 for Greater Manchester's Trussell Trust Foodbanks, and also helped to secure PPE equipment for key workers in the area and supply students who were temporarily locked down in their campuses with food and drink.
As City welcome back a full stadium on Saturday against Norwich for the first time since February 2020, MCFC FFS will be taking donations of non-perishable foods, long lasting milk, fruit juices and toiletries at the end of Sir Howard Bernstein Way opposite the Asda, from 12:30 until 2:30pm.
They have also partnered with the National Squash Centre and Manchester Regional Arena on the Etihad Campus to enable storage and access on matchdays that will increase the time they can spend receiving donations.
"To us, it just makes sense that we're doing this," said Nick Clarke, a member of the group.
"We're supporters of a community club who all come from Manchester communities - any of us could find ourselves needing help from a foodbank one day. It's solidarity with our friends, neighbours and families, not charity. We're glad we can pick up where we left off with a full stadium."
