Man City face race against time to complete two left-back deals

Manchester City have just days left to complete two left-back deals before the transfer window closes.

Having completed the signing of Ruben Dias in what they hope will end their struggles at centre-back, the Blues could yet bring in a new left-back in an effort to end their issues there.

Benjamin Mendy was a big-money signing in 2017 in that position but has struggled with long-term injuries and is still yet to show the form that convinced the club to buy him from Monaco, while two makeshift replacements in Fabian Delph and Danilo have left the club and another, Aleks Zinchenko, could be the trigger that allows them to bring in a new specialist.

City are considering their options, and M.E.N Sport understands that Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico would be open to a move but that the club are yet to firm up their interest. The 28-year-old is an Argentina international as well as having Champions League experience, and his sale had been discussed at Ajax earlier this year.

Tagliafico is a more attainable target than David Alaba, with Bayern Munich - not on the best relations with City anyway after two summers of Leroy Sane sagas - unwilling to lose one of their star men despite contract negotiations turning nasty.

However, any incoming signing is thought to hinge on whether City can get rid of Aleks Zinchenko first. The Ukrainian has had a number of offers in previous windows and clearly has a lot to offer. But time is running out for the Blues to complete that deal and then bring in a specialist at left-back to further bolster the defence, with just five days before the transfer window shuts.
