Man City eye £10m swoop for Leeds United target Dan James and surprise plan for him in Spain - reports

Wales young gun Daniel James has become a target for Premier League title-chasers Manchester City who plan to loan him out to Spanish La Liga side Girona, claim reports.

James saw his stock rise further when he smashed Wales' winner in the Euro 2020 opening qualifier with Slovakia and the Sun reckon Pep Guardiola has become a fan.

The 21-year-old wing flier has already been at the centre of frenzied speculation, with a Leeds United move for him in January collapsing at the 11th hour.

But the new reports say Guardiola is ready to match Swansea's £10m asking price for their most coveted talent after Man City's spies ran the rule over James.

Bournemouth are also said to have joined the chase for the Welsh starlet, with Leeds still keen despite seeing their promotion hopes take a dash in recent days.

However, according to the Sun Man City's plan is to loan out James to their Spanish partners Girona and then use him further down the line.

They feel he could further learn his trade on the wing with a spell in the Spanish top flight, although Girona are fighting with Celta Vigo, Levante, Valladolid and Huseca to avoid the La Liga drop in the closing weeks of the season.

Man City took a sizeable stake in Girona two years ago, part of their growing portfolio of clubs which also sees them as partners of sides in Asia, South America, the United States and Australia.

They have loaned Spanish midfielder Aleix Garcia to Girona, and previously struck a similar deal for teenage Spanish right-back Pablo Maffeo.

The Sun say it would be James' choice as to whether he was prepared to go abroad at this stage of his career, particularly with the Swans offering regular football in the Championship and a number of bigger clubs circling and likely to bid this summer.

The enormous Wales dilemma Swansea City ace Daniel James has just given Ryan Giggs

His Wales team-mate Rabbi Matondo made the move from Manchester City to German outfit FC Schalke, where he is advancing his own career.

There will come a point over the coming years when James and Matondo are paired as wing wizards flying down the flanks for Wales.

James is contracted with Swansea until June 2020 and the club are keen to retain his services. But with a restructuring process in place following relegation from the Premier League the owners are likely to sell this summer if the right bid comes in.
