Man City evening headlines with Silva transfer reports and Laporte praise

Silva 'in talks' over Valencia return - report

David Silva is leaving Manchester City at the end of the season and could make a return to his former side Valencia, but the deal is proving complicated to complete due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ESPN are reporting that Valencia are keen to sign the Spaniard back after over 10 years at the Etihad Stadium, but negotiations are slightly more complex with COVID-19 causing problems all over Europe.

With Silva out of contract at City from June 30, the season may not even be over by then due to it being delayed indefinitely.

FIFA have signalled their intentions to extend contracts that expire at the end of June until the season can be completed, but there is concern from senior figures within the Premier League that this is not legally possible.

Sources have told ESPN that the 34-year-old will have to decide to extend his contract in the short-term with the Premier League side or exit on June 30.

Sterling praises classy Laporte

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has heaped praise on his team-mate Aymeric Laporte after his heart-warming gesture to the father of the late Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine.

Vastine won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in the light-welterweight division, but tragically passed away after a helicopter accident in Argentina five years ago.

International handball player Cyril Dumoulin set up a fund to raise money for health workers during the ongoing global coronavirus crisis, something Vastine’s father, Alain, was keen to donate to.

He decided to donate his son’s boxing gear to the trust, and City defender Laporte won the auction with a bid of €5,000 and sent the gear straight back to the father.

The gesture from Laporte unsurprisingly received praise from Sterling, who wrote on his official Twitter account: “Class @Laporte”, quoting a tweet of the incredible gesture.
