Xavi urges Man City to back Pep Guardiola with spending spree
Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has encouraged Manchester City to back Pep Guardiola in the transfer market.
Guardiola crashed out of the Champions League against Lyon last week, and is still to reach a Champions League final since departing the Spanish giants. Xavi acknowledged that losing both the Premier League and Champions League will be a blow to his former manager, and believes it’s up to City to back the manager this summer.
"To not win one of the Premier League or Champions League will be a big disappointment for Pep - those are the two he would have wanted," he told the Daily Star.
"The Champions League even more so because Manchester City have never won it. They have some very good players of course they do - but Pep needs to be supported in the transfer market this summer.
"It is not that they need many players - just three exceptional ones. We know that will not come cheap - but I would like to see Pep given the money to rebuild."

Claudio Bravo leaves Man City
Claudio Bravo has brought an end to his Man City career following the expiration of his contract.
The Chilean shot-stopper arrived from Barcelona in 2016, but struggled to settle at the Etihad and saw his first season at the club blighted by some high-profile errors.
The arrival of Ederson from Benfica confirmed Bravo’s position as back-up and he performed admirably in the Community Shield and the League Cup final when called upon.
David Silva compares Pep Guardiola to Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini
David Silva has offered praise to all three of the managers he worked under while at Manchester City.
The Spaniard joined City from Valencia and has gone on to become one of the league’s best-ever midfielders.
He will now embark on a new challenge with Real Sociedad, and speaking to City TV, he revealed the efforts Roberto Mancini went to in order to sign him.
"He used to call me quite often when I was in Valencia trying to convince me to come here and play for him," Silva revealed.
"I am really grateful because he trusted me and because of him I made one of the best choices I ever made in my life. And after that I have been here for 10 magnificent years, all because of him."
