Raheem Sterling voices concerns regarding the return of football
Sergio Aguero was the highest-profile player to raise concerns about the resumption of top-flight football following the coronavirus crisis, and now his City teammate Raheem Sterling has joined him in speaking out on the issue.
In a video released on his YouTube channel, the England international voiced his concerns, not just for players but everyone involved in the sport.
"The moment we do go back it just needs to be a moment where it's not just for footballing reasons, it's safe for not just us footballers but the whole medical staff, referees,” he said.
“I don't know how that's going to work but I feel like once that side of the people's safety and the player's safety is secured and their wellbeing is looked after then that's the right time to go back in.”
Premier League clubs were due to meet today to discuss the next steps for Project Restart, following Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s latest televised address on the crisis.
Van Dijk names City striker as the best he’s faced
City and Liverpool have been the Premier League’s top two teams over the last couple of seasons, and the Reds’ rise has been aided in no small part by their acquisition of Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman has recently revealed who the best striker he has played against is. Van Dijk spoke to Jamie Redknapp for Sky Sports and was asked who he’d like to train with on a desert island.
"I've said it in an interview that I think that Aguero was the best striker I've played against, so maybe Aguero," he said.
Football fans everywhere will hope the pair can lock horns again soon, with City against Liverpool one of the remaining fixtures to be played in 2019/20.
City Football Group acquire ninth club
City Football Group (CFG) have announced they have purchased Lommel SK, a Belgian second division club.
They become the ninth team in CFG’s portfolio, joining City and Girona as the European sides who are under their umbrella. Ferran Soriano, CFG chief executive, explained the attraction of their latest acquisition.
“This investment is part of our long-term strategy to be present in key football countries, play beautiful football and develop talent,” he said.
“We were attracted to Lommel’s culture, training facilities and commitment to youth development and we look forward to learning from their approach and helping the club to evolve in the months and years ahead.”
