Man City evening headlines as Pep Guardiola signs new contract, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak's message

Here are the Manchester City evening headlines for Thursday, November 19.

Guardiola explains why he signed new contract

Pep Guardiola revealed the support from Manchester City was the main reason he agreed a new two-year contract with the club.

The Spaniard ended speculation surrounding his future by agreeing a new two-year deal that extends his stay at the club until 2023. Guardiola had been linked with a return to Barcelona, but he has instead decided to remain in Manchester.

The City manager said: "Ever since I arrived at Manchester City I have been made to feel so welcome in the Club and in the city itself- from the players, the staff, the supporters, the people of Manchester and the Chairman and Owner.

"Since then we have achieved a great deal together, scored goals, won games and trophies, and we are all very proud of that success.

“Having that kind of support is the best thing any manager can have. I have everything I could possibly want to do my job well and I am humbled by the confidence the Owner, Chairman, Ferran [Soriano] and Txiki [Begiristain] have shown in me to continue for two more years after this season.

“The challenge for us is to continue improving and evolving, and I am very excited about helping Manchester City do that.”

City chairman explains the importance of Guardiola's new deal

Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has expressed his delight at Guardiola's decision to sign a new deal with the club.

The Manchester City chairman could not hide his joy at the news that Guardiola had committed his future to the club until 2023.

"It is testament to the qualities of the man that Pep Guardiola's passion and intelligent approach are now woven into the very fabric of the football we play and our culture as a Club," Mubarak told Man City's official website.

"That impact has been central to our success during his tenure and it is why I am delighted that he shares our view that there is so much more to be achieved both on and off the field.

“Pep’s contract extension is the natural next step in a journey which has evolved over many years. It is a product of the mutual trust and respect that exists between him and the entire Club."

Inside Guardiola's Man City contract talks and Al-Mubarak's key role

It was the news every Manchester City fan wanted to read.

Guardiola would be staying with City until at least 2023. Joe Bray has written about the inside track on the talks between the Spaniard and the club as Man City looked to secure his future .

“As a manager, I have everything that I need," Guardiola said.

"Of course, all managers depend on results, obviously me as well and we have to win to continue. I saw many times in the bad moments how the people here support me.”

"Of course, Ferran [Soriano] and Txiki [Begiristain], but especially Khaldoon, our chairman, was the main reason I decided to continue.

"We have had long talks this week together, we put both sides to continue or not and in the end we decided that the best for all of us is to continue because still we have the feeling that there is unfinished business and still there is something to do - continue what we have done in the last years. This club won in the recent past, but together we won a lot and we won a lot and we won again.”
