Man City evening headlines as Pep Guardiola's role in Gabriel Jesus transfer explained

Here are the Manchester City evening headlines for Saturday, November 14.

Guardiola ‘convinced’ Jesus to join City over Inter

Pep Guardiola was responsible for Gabriel Jesus’ decision to join Manchester City over Italian giants Inter.

The Serie A side were one of several clubs interested in the Brazilian striker, who was then playing for Palmeiras.

But a phone call from Guardiola was enough to convince Jesus that the Etihad was the perfect destination.

“He could have gone to Inter, but Mancini didn’t call him. This is why he chose Manchester City,” FIFA agent Sabatino Durante told Italian outlet CalcioMercato.

“He was one of the most promising Palmeiras players. Inter were strongly interested and I told the Nerazzurri to have Mancini call him because he is a very sensitive guy.

“Inter didn’t do it, unlike Manchester City. Guardiola called him and convinced him.”

How City’s squad could look next season

Manchester City always have one eye on the future and it will not be long until attention turns towards the club’s 25-man squad for next season.

Players will inevitably move on, with ageing and unwanted players likely to leave.

There will also probably be new additions at some point between now and the start of next season as City look to further improve in their pursuit of silverware.

Here, we've looked at how City's 25-man Premier League squad could look next term, and who could join the current group.

City still behind Liverpool in squad value after summer spending

Manchester City’s overall player value remains behind Liverpool’s despite an increase of £48m following this summer’s new signings.

According to Transfermarkt, the Blues have the second-most valuable squad in the world with a total valuation of £971.64m.

A 5.2 per cent increase has seen City move above Real Madrid, though Liverpool are still out in front with an overall squad valuation of £973m.

Pep Guardiola’s side were briefly out in front after the arrivals of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake, but Liverpool also added to their squad, bringing in Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota.
