Man City evening headlines as Mikel Arteta prepares for ‘strange’ return and Houssem Aouar hint

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Thursday, June 11.

Lyon ready for Aouar offers

Lyon are ready to listen to offers for Houssem Aouar - the midfielder who has already been linked with a move to Manchester City.

He impressed Pep Guardiola in last season's Champions League group stages, with the City boss describing him as "incredible".

And now the French team's director of football Juninho has admitted the club will consider any approaches for the 21-year-old.

"Houssem was formed here, he has been here for a long time," the Brazilian said.

"He brings us the technical touch required in midfield. But we know that the majority of youth academy talents here, who have Houssem’s talent, have left at one moment or another. It is the president who will decide.

“If we receive offers, we will analyse them. He is an important player.”

Arteta ready for return

Former Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta says it will be strange to bring his Arsenal side to the Etihad Stadium when the Premier League returns next week.

The Gunners travel to Manchester on June 17 - the first day of the resumption.

And it will be Arteta's first time back at Eastlands after his appointment at Arsenal.

He told Sky Sports' Football Show: "I know everybody there and I spent four magnificent years with those players and with that club.

“But I am really excited as well. I can’t wait to start competing and do what we love most which is to play football."

New contract, new role for Scott

Jill Scott will take up a coaching role alongside her playing duties to remain at Manchester City Women.

Scott, 33, was one of the first signings when the Blues reformed back in January 2014 and has been an essential part of the team during a period where they have picked up six major trophies including one WSL title.

The England midfielder has also been instrumental in driving the growth of the women's game and was awarded an MBE in the 2020 New Year's Honours List for her services to the sport.

Scott's new role will see her join the coaching set-up, working with assistant Alan Mahon and new head coach Gareth Taylor. However, the midfielder will still be available for selection in the team and has made it clear that she sees herself as a player first.

“It feels fantastic to have everything sorted and to know that I’m going to be at the Club for the next two years is something I’m really looking forward to," she said.
