Man City evening headlines as Kompany explains De Bruyne U-turn and Lampard's City Werner claim

How Kompany changed his mind about De Bruyne

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has explained how he changed his mind over Kevin De Bruyne following a rocky start at the Etihad Stadium.

As it stands, De Bruyne is well renowned as one of the best midfielders in European football but things didn’t start so well for the Belgian, as Kompany explained in a City TV documentary.

Kompany said: “I must say, he came into the national team when he was very, very young and at the same time, he didn’t really leave a good impression on me.

“I thought he just seemed to moan a lot, he tried a lot of things that weren’t coming off at that time and I said it’s a shame, we could have done with some more talent in the team. Anyway, time went by, things happened and all of a sudden, before you knew it, he was the best player we had.”

Napoli coach gives Man City transfer message about Koulibaly

Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso has told Manchester City that they won’t be able to sign Kalidou Koulibaly if they do not reach the club’s asking price.

Koulibaly is City's top target this summer as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his defensive options but Gattuso was adamant the Senegal international will not leave on the cheap.

Gattuso told Sky Italia: “Koulibaly has a precise asking price, and if the club doesn’t get the money it is asking for, then he won’t leave.”

Lampard makes Man City transfer claim about Werner

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has claimed that Manchester City and Liverpool were interested in signing Timo Werner before he joined the Blues.

The London-based club signed Werner for almost £50m from RB Leipzig this summer and the Chelsea boss has explained how he was a target for Guardiola’s side.

Lampard said: “You understand that when there is competition from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, that you need to state your best case to the player.

“Having been that player at one point, I tried to sell the club to the best of my ability when I spoke to players. Petr (Cech, Chelsea’s technical director) in his role does the same.”
