Man City evening headlines as Kevin De Bruyne makes admission and Kaka transfer revelation

De Bruyne names favourite City assist

Kevin De Bruyne has selected his favourite assist for Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Belgian international has contributed to plenty of important goals for City, including the last-minute assist for Gabriel Jesus against Southampton that saw Pep Guardiola’s side hit the 100-point mark.

And when quizzed on his goal contributions, De Bruyne overlooked that assist in favour of two that are similar to one another as his overall favourite.

“I think I have to choose between the one I did against Stoke for Leroy [Sane] or the one this year against Aston Villa for Gabriel [Jesus]. I think they are almost similar, maybe the one for Gabriel because I had to do it at full speed,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s a similar pass because you have to bend it around players, but at Villa, I was more in a stride, and that makes it really difficult.”

De Bruyne was also asked if he prefers getting assists to scoring goals and explained his stance on the two significant contributions.

He added: "I can enjoy both really. I get the same feeling with an assist as sometimes I feel that the work you can do as a creative player, you help the attacking player score an easy goal so sometimes the assist can be so good or creative, I get the same feeling as scoring a goal. It feels like you make it easier for the striker to score, and it’s my job. I get enough satisfaction from doing that stuff.”

Kaka on turning down City

The agent of former Brazil international Kaka has claimed that the midfielder rejected a move to Manchester City back in 2009 before he moved to Real Madrid.

At the time, City were looking for a landmark signing and made a massive offer for the midfielder, but the player’s wishes meant that a transfer to the Etihad Stadium never happened.

“If it was up to Milan, they would’ve accepted the €100m (£88m) offer from Manchester City, but Kaka absolutely refused to move,” his agent, Gaetano Paolillo, told Milan News (via the Daily Mail).

Kaka eventually moved to Real Madrid, where he spent four years, but, according to Paolillo, the player didn’t push for that transfer either.

“Every year, Real Madrid would ask if Kaka was available, but Milan had always considered him off the market, and he wanted to stay too. That was the plan, anyway,” he added.

“After his last game with Milan in Florence in 2009, he left for international duty and only took a rucksack. He said we’d meet back at the Malpensa Airport in a month, but Milan sold Ricky (Kaka’s nickname) to Real Madrid when he was in Brazil.

“He never wanted to leave, and the money he earned at Real Madrid wasn’t the issue. He was loved by the fans and more than happy at Milan, but the club put him on the market and at that point, Real Madrid was a good option. It wasn’t Galliani’s call either; he loved Ricky.”

Why Aguero scores so often

Sergio Aguero loves goals, but that’s not why he scores so many.

No, for the answer to that you need to read Josh Williams’ new piece on the Argentine striker and his playing habits.

Josh has looked at the numbers behind Aguero's play, and why he seems unlikely to slow down anytime soon.
