Man City evening headlines as Guardiola reacts to CAS decision and big transfers mooted

Here are your Manchester City headlines for the evening of Monday July 13.

What ruling means for Premier League probe

As UEFA's ban on City taking part in European competition is lifted, another investigation continues.

The Premier League announced they were looking into the club in March 2019 - a day after UEFA had done the same - in relation to Financial Fair Play but also recruitment of academy players and third-party ownership.

It has been stressed that the league investigation into City was separate from any being conducted by other organisations, with independent information being compiled. However, the decision to wait until CAS reviewed the original decision banning City before reaching any conclusions now appears shrewd from the Premier League.

Simon Bajkowski explains how today's ruling could affect that ongoing probe here.

Pep Guardiola and City staff react CAS decision with selfie

Pep Guardiola and other Manchester City staff like Txiki Begiristain celebrated CAS’s decision to overturn the club’s two-season suspension from the Champions League on Monday morning.

A picture was shared, and then quickly deleted, of Guardiola and a number of other coaches and club figures smiling and revealing their delight with Sky Sports News’ coverage of the result on the TV in the background.

City had always remained confident that an independent hearing would clear them of any wrongdoing, with Guardiola reiterating that belief a number of times up until Monday morning’s news.

City fans hope for big-money summer transfers after Champions League ban overturned

Manchester City fans have already turned their focus towards the summer transfer window after it was announced that the club’s two-season ban from the Champions League had been overturned.

The ruling means City will once again take their place in European club football’s premier competition next season, something which will make it easier to attract top targets to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Not only will Manchester City now stand a better chance of signing their top targets, they will now find it much easier to keep key figures at the club now that they can promise them Champions League football again.

City have been linked with a number of targets, with Lionel Messi the latest to have been mentioned as a potential signing for the club. Milan Skriniar and Ben Chilwell are also believed to be on their radar.
