Man City dominate PFA Player of the Year shortlist as Raheem Sterling goes against Virgil van Dijk

The nominations for the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award have been announced ahead of the award ceremony on April 28.

Manchester City have three players in the shortlist with Sergio Aguero, Bernando Silva and Raheem Sterling all nominated.

Every member of the PFA is given a vote in each of the individual categories and players are not allowed to vote for teammates from their own clubs and the awards are one of the two most lucrative available to individuals each season, along with the Football Writers’ Association awards that are issued in May.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah won the top honour last year ahead of Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, while City’s Leroy Sane won the award for Young Player of the Year.

When is the PFA Player of the Year award announced and who is on the shortlist

City's title rivals Liverpool have both Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk nominated.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is the final nominee after a sensational campaign for the Blues, which could prove to be his last campaign in the Premier League amidst heavy interest from Real Madrid.
