Man City deny accusations over version of Liverpool's 'Allez Allez Allez' chant

Manchester City have moved to deny accusations their players' chant related to Liverpool fan Sean Cox or Hillsborough.

City's players have come under fire after a video surfaced on social media appearing to show them singing a distasteful version of the "Allez Allez Allez" chant.

The rendition of the song is believed to have been filmed on their plane home from Brighton after winning the Premier League title on Sunday.

The chant includes lines about Liverpool fans being "battered in the streets" and "victims of it all", whilst those in the clip clearly sing a line referring to captain Vincent Kompany injuring Mohamed Salah earlier in the season.

City have been criticised for the vile song with Pep Guardiola's players branded 'classless' and 'shameful' on social media.

A statement from the Premier League champions insisted the song has been a regular chant during the season and refers to Liverpool losing the Champions League final in Kiev.

"Any suggestion that the lyrics relate to Sean Cox or the Hillsborough tragedy is entirely without foundation," the statement added.

Liverpool fan Sean Cox suffered life-changing injuries when he was attacked outside Anfield ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Roma.

The 54-year-old is continuing his rehabilitation and recovery while his attacker has since been jailed.

City have also distanced themselves from allegations the chant references the Hillsborough tragedy, where 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives.

City clinched the title with their 4-1 win at Brighton after going on a remarkable run of 14 straight wins to end the season and deny Liverpool a first ever Premier League crown.

City fans came up with the song to mock Liverpool's Champions League final heartache in Kiev against Real Madrid and the fact they ended the season without any silverware.

Liverpool will look to end this season with a trophy when they face Tottenham in Madrid next month.
